Car Hire Checklist
So, you're going on holiday and want to hire a car in Spain, that most popular of holiday destinations. Here'a a few points to think about.
- Size of vehicle. Are you carrying a lot of luggage or other large items such as golf clubs? You wil also need a larger vehicle if you have a large family to transport.
- Length of journey. If you're going to be driving around a lot, hire a car that's comfortable. Driving around in a car that's unsuitable will just add to the stress.
- Book well in advance. To ensure you get the vehicle you require, book well ahead, if possible, to avoid disappointment. Also shop around for the best deal.
- Time of year. The time of year you go on holiday will have a significant effect on the price of your car hire. If you can manage to go off peak, it could work out cheaper as well as having a greater choice in cars.
- Read the small print. Check you are insured to drive the hire vehicle as well as the excess in the event of an accident. Check if you have to return it with a full tank of fuel and if there is a minimum charge. Always ask if there is something that is unclear.
- Check the vehicle. Check the vehicle over thoroughly and make sure any dents or scratches are documented. It is always a good idea to photograph them as well with a date code.
Following these basic rules should help ensure that you don't get handed an unexpected hefty bill when you hand the keys back.
